Kaga Electronics announced an investment in Highlanders, a physical AI and robotics company. Highlanders is a University of Tokyo-origin startup established in May 2023.
Highlanders handles the design and manufacturing of humanoid robot N and quadruped robot HLQ Edge, as well as AI development, entirely in-house, with the goal of realizing a domestically developed robot platform.
In July 2026, it signed a basic agreement with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation for the joint development and mass production of humanoid robots. Using Mitsubishi Motors' Kyoto Manufacturing Plant, it aims to establish mass-production capacity of approximately 1,000 units per month in the second half of 2027.
Kaga Electronics aims to contribute to alleviating labor shortages and improving productivity in areas including manufacturing, logistics, social infrastructure, and research and development by leveraging Highlanders' technology implementation capabilities, sales network, and customer base. Kaga Electronics has maintained a CVC with a total investment capacity of ¥5 billion since 2018 and is also pursuing the creation of new businesses.
