Shimadzu Corporation has begun developing and validating an automation solution using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for the central laboratory at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. The integration includes Abbott’s AlinIQ AMS clinical laboratory system, with the aim of automating sample processing and enabling data integration.
The solution comprises the fully automated sample preparation system CLAM-2040 CL, the triple quadrupole mass spectrometer LCMS-8060 CL and dedicated reagent kits. It will be operated as an integrated solution designed to process large volumes of samples within the hospital.
Shimadzu positions its clinical business, centered on molecular diagnostics, as a core growth business under its medium-term management plan. The company will continue developing and validating clinical laboratory solutions in collaboration with external partners, with the aim of expanding the business globally.
The initiative is expected to contribute to faster and more reliable testing in clinical settings and is positioned as a demonstration of automated laboratory workflows within a hospital.
