Buying prevailed in the Tokyo stock market on the 7th, and the Nikkei Average rose sharply from the previous weekend's close. The morning session close was ¥66,460.11, as a pause in the rise in long-term interest rates encouraged investor buying.
The Nikkei Stock Average (225) rose more than ¥1,600 at one point in Tokyo trading at the start of the week, and closed the morning session ¥1,439.17 higher at ¥66,460.11.
The rise in semiconductor-related stocks in the previous day's US market prompted buying of AI-related and semiconductor-related stocks, helping push up the market.
Market participants also cited expectations that the rise in long-term interest rates had paused as a factor supporting buying, saying this strengthened investors' appetite for stocks.
The market also holds a view that earnings remain firm, which is seen as a factor supporting share prices in both Japan and the US.
