Niigata City and プログレス・テクノロジーズ formally launched the “Niigata 2km DX Talent Development Project,” centered on developing DX talent. A joint press conference was held at Niigata City Hall on 28 September 2026, announcing plans for local educational institutions and companies to work together to deliver practical DX education.
Niigata City and プログレス・テクノロジーズ announced an initiative to build a regional co-creation model for developing DX talent, with the aim of solving challenges faced by local companies. The press conference was attended by the Mayor of Niigata City and the company’s Representative Director, who explained the background to the initiative and its vision for the future.
The project will promote urban development and industrial growth through the use of digital technology, primarily in the Niigata 2km area, while also seeking to address local issues such as the outflow of young people to other prefectures and the shortage of digital talent. It will provide students and young talent with opportunities to learn DX in an environment close to actual business practice.
As the first initiative, a DX talent development course is scheduled to launch at Niigata Business Vocational School in October 2026, featuring a hands-on curriculum. The course will incorporate perspectives from business settings and develop participants’ ability to identify issues, solve problems and make proposals.
The second pillar is to create opportunities for co-creation with local companies. Discussions will be used to identify challenges and needs related to promoting DX, which will then be reflected in the educational programme. The project will increase contact between students and companies, leading to talent matching in the future.
