FY2027-Q1 revenue increased 22.6% year on year to ¥672.729 billion, while operating income fell 43.5% to ¥20.8 billion, leaving the operating margin down from approximately 6.7% to 3.1%. FY2027-H1 will show whether cost pressure from fuel and other expenses continues and whether the full-year operating income forecast of ¥150.0 billion can be maintained.

How far will first-half operating income progress against the ¥75.0 billion benchmark represented by 50% of the full-year forecast?
Will the operating margin move closer to approximately 6.7% in the year-earlier period from 3.1% in Q1?
Will the company disclose increases in fuel, maintenance and personnel costs, and whether higher unit prices and operating scale effects offset the increase in expenses?
Will the full-year forecasts of ¥150.0 billion in operating income and ¥2.77 trillion in revenue be maintained?
FY2027-Q1 revenue increased 22.6% year on year to ¥672.729 billion, but operating income fell 43.5% to ¥20.782 billion and ordinary income fell 37.3% to ¥22.513 billion. Profit moved in the opposite direction to revenue growth, making the central issue in these results the cost structure that absorbed the higher revenue rather than insufficient demand.
In the year-earlier period, revenue was ¥548.701 billion and operating income was ¥36.786 billion, producing an operating margin of approximately 6.7%. In the current period, the operating margin fell to approximately 3.1%, a deterioration of approximately 3.6 percentage points. Higher fuel and other costs were cited as factors behind the first-quarter earnings decline, but the results summary provided no quantitative bridge showing the increase in fuel costs, the breakdown of maintenance and personnel costs, or the amount absorbed through fare revisions and fuel surcharges.
The full-year forecasts are revenue of ¥2.77 trillion, operating income of ¥150.0 billion, ordinary income of ¥137.0 billion and net income attributable to owners of the parent of ¥96.0 billion. Operating income is projected to decline 31.0% from the previous fiscal year's actual ¥217.437 billion. Q1 progress was 24.3% for revenue but only 13.9% for operating income. On a simple 50% half-year benchmark, first-half operating income of ¥75.0 billion would be one reference point. This is an arithmetic benchmark that does not reflect seasonality, however, and is not the company's own forecast.
In FY2027-H1, it will be necessary to assess not only how much operating income accumulates from the Q1 level of ¥20.8 billion, but also whether the operating margin improves from 3.1%. It will be important to see whether the company discloses year-on-year changes in fuel-cost assumptions, hedging effects, maintenance costs, personnel costs and variable costs associated with expanding the scale of operations. Even if the earnings forecast is not revised, confidence in the ¥150.0 billion forecast will be difficult to raise without additional explanation showing whether the margin decline is temporary or structural.
