In FY2027-Q1, revenue was almost unchanged year on year, while operating profit and ordinary profit both declined by double digits. Profit for the quarter attributable to owners of the parent increased due to the recognition of compensation income, so in FY2027-H1 it will be necessary to distinguish a recovery in core earnings from the disappearance of one-off factors.

The company's ongoing themes and initiatives this watchpoint touches on.
Revenue in FY2027-Q1 was ¥7.464009 billion, down 0.1% year on year and therefore essentially flat. Operating profit, however, was ¥233.667 million, down 18.1%, while ordinary profit was ¥189.628 million, down 26.3%, indicating that core earnings contracted despite the company maintaining its revenue scale. The operating margin calculated from revenue and operating profit was approximately 3.13%, down approximately 0.69 percentage points from approximately 3.82% in the prior-year quarter.
The earnings shortfall extended beyond operating profit, with the decline in ordinary profit exceeding that in operating profit. As no improvement has been confirmed at the ordinary profit level, which includes interest expenses and non-operating income and expenses, FY2027-H1 should be assessed not only for the operating margin but also for whether non-operating income and expenses are putting further pressure on earnings. The company described inflation and higher raw material, energy and personnel costs as a difficult operating environment, but did not provide a breakdown of the impact by expense item.
Profit for the quarter attributable to owners of the parent, meanwhile, was ¥156.482 million, up 98.7% year on year. This was largely due to the recognition of ¥62.341 million in compensation received as extraordinary income, equivalent to approximately 26.7% of operating profit of ¥233.667 million. Extraordinary losses totaled ¥9.382 million, comprising ¥1.59 million in loss on disposal of fixed assets, ¥4.043 million in impairment losses and ¥5.178 million in loss on cancellation of leases. It is therefore difficult to regard the increase in net profit as a straightforward improvement in the core business.
In the next report for FY2027-H1, priority should be given to checking whether additional compensation income was recognized, the year-on-year change in operating profit, the operating margin and the scale of the decline in ordinary profit. Key indicators of earnings quality will include an explanation of pretax profit or net profit excluding extraordinary income, which expense items among raw materials, personnel and promotional costs put pressure on the margin, and how much was added to the cumulative H1 result from Q1 operating profit of ¥233 million.
