FY2027 Q1 posted revenue of ¥27,008 million, up 9.8% year on year, but operating profit fell 16.3% to ¥1,103 million, resulting in higher revenue but lower profit. The focus is whether the full-year operating profit forecast of ¥4,300 million can be maintained and whether margins bottom out in the first half.

Cumulative H1 revenue: assess progress against ¥55,000 million, or a simple 50% of the ¥110,000 million full-year forecast
Cumulative H1 operating profit: assess against ¥2,150 million, or a simple 50% of the ¥4,300 million full-year forecast
Cumulative H1 operating margin: assess whether it exceeds Q1's 4.08% (¥1,103 million ÷ ¥27,008 million)
Check whether the impact of North American manufacturing costs, the stronger Mexican peso and higher domestic labor costs is disclosed in millions of yen
Revenue in Q1 of the fiscal year ending March 2027 was ¥27,008 million, up 9.8% from ¥24,589 million in the same period of the previous year. Operating profit was ¥1,103 million, down 16.3% from ¥1,318 million. The operating margin was approximately 4.08%, about 1.27 percentage points below the approximately 5.36% recorded in the same period of the previous year, indicating that higher revenue did not translate directly into profit.
The company's full-year forecasts remain revenue of ¥110,000 million, operating profit of ¥4,300 million, ordinary profit of ¥3,500 million and net profit attributable to owners of the parent of ¥1,700 million, with no revisions as of Q1. Q1 progress was approximately 24.6% for revenue and 25.7% for operating profit, not significantly behind a simple one-quarter benchmark. However, maintaining the operating profit progress rate is a separate issue from improving the margin year on year. If cost pressures continue through the first half, the profit hurdle required in the second half will rise.
The company cites higher manufacturing costs resulting from delays in improving productivity at its North American facilities, the stronger Mexican peso against the US dollar and higher domestic labor costs as factors behind the decline in operating profit. However, it has not disclosed by how many millions of yen each of the manufacturing cost, foreign exchange and labor cost factors reduced operating profit. Based on the figures currently available, it is therefore not possible to determine whether the Q1 decline was due to a temporary foreign exchange impact, operating issues in North America such as yield or utilization, or a structural increase in domestic fixed costs.
At the next H1 results, progress should be assessed against simple 50% benchmarks of ¥55,000 million for H1 revenue and ¥2,150 million for operating profit, while checking whether the company discloses figures specifically for the first half. In particular, the key factors in assessing the credibility of the ¥4,300 million full-year operating profit forecast will be whether the cumulative H1 operating margin exceeds Q1's 4.08%, whether improved North American productivity actually appears as lower manufacturing costs, and whether the impacts of foreign exchange and labor costs are quantified.

Revenue increased, while operating profit declined, so the higher revenue did not translate into profit.
