FY2027-Q1 got off to a difficult start, with revenue of ¥4,170 million and an operating loss of ¥225 million, but the full-year forecasts remained unchanged at revenue of ¥27,000 million and operating profit of ¥1,780 million. At the next H1 results, we will assess whether the benefit of the Shanghai subsidiary's shipments being concentrated in Q2 is offset by higher costs from delivery delays on high-value-added projects.

Did FY2027-Q1 revenue decline only 19.2% year on year to ¥4,170 million?
To what extent will the Shanghai subsidiary's ¥2,108 million, or 95.0%, Q1 revenue decline recover in Q2?
Can the remaining ¥2,005 million after deducting the Q1 operating loss of ¥225 million from the full-year operating profit forecast of ¥1,780 million be secured in Q2-Q4?
Have the full-year forecasts of ¥27,000 million in revenue and ¥1,780 million in operating profit remained unchanged?
Will the additional costs arising from delivery delays and their impact on the cost ratio be disclosed?
The company's ongoing themes and initiatives this watchpoint touches on.
FY2027-Q1 revenue was ¥4,170 million, down ¥993 million, or 19.2%, from ¥5,164 million in the prior-year quarter. The operating result deteriorated from an operating loss of ¥76 million in the prior-year quarter to an operating loss of ¥225 million, while the ordinary loss was ¥191 million and the quarterly net loss attributable to owners of the parent was ¥181 million. The fact that the quarter involved not only lower revenue but also a wider operating loss makes the next H1 results particularly important.
The main reason for the revenue decline was a ¥2,108 million, or 95.0%, year-on-year decrease in Q1 revenue at 瑞光(上海)電気設備有限公司, as shipments by the company are concentrated in the second quarter. Its operating profit also declined by ¥331 million year on year, directly weighing on consolidated Q1 earnings rather than merely reflecting a timing shift in revenue recognition. At the next H1 results, the recovery in the Shanghai subsidiary's Q2 revenue, shipment timing and operating profit needs to be assessed on a monetary basis.
The company maintained its full-year forecasts of ¥27,000 million in revenue, ¥1,780 million in operating profit, ¥1,820 million in ordinary profit and ¥1,280 million in net income attributable to owners of the parent. Simply subtracting the Q1 results from the full-year plan leaves ¥22,830 million in revenue, ¥2,005 million in operating profit, ¥2,011 million in ordinary profit and ¥1,461 million in net income to be generated in Q2-Q4. These are mechanical residual amounts that do not take seasonality or the concentration of shipments into account, but unless the recovery from Q2 onward is substantial, achieving the full-year operating profit forecast will not be easy.
In the first half of the previous fiscal year, revenue was ¥10,493 million and operating profit was ¥386 million, making the ability to exceed these levels at the next H1 results one basis for comparison. However, because the company has said that shipments by the Shanghai subsidiary will be concentrated in Q2 this fiscal year, performance should not be judged solely by the simple year-on-year comparison for Q1. Q2 revenue and profit and the amount of recovery at the Shanghai subsidiary should be examined separately. Orders received and order backlog were not disclosed in the Q1 summary report, so the next results should also clarify whether the shipment delays reflect timing of fulfilment rather than a lack of orders.
The company has also incurred higher costs from delivery delays on new product projects incorporating high-value-added functions, but as of Q1 it had not quantified the amount or its contribution to the cost ratio. If the next H1 results explain only a recovery in Shanghai shipments without disclosing the additional costs or profitability review for delayed projects, it would be risky to assess the likelihood of achieving the full-year plan solely on the basis of a revenue recovery.
Partially addressed
Interim-period revenue was ¥10,899 million, and the operating loss was ¥222 million. Revenue at 瑞光上海 decreased by ¥1,339 million year on year, and the recovery effect expected in the second half from the concentration of shipments was not evident in interim earnings. Meanwhile, the full-year forecast was left unchanged at revenue of ¥27,000 million and operating profit of ¥1,780 million. As the company expects revenue at 瑞光上海 to increase in the second half and costs related to delivery delays to subside, its policy of maintaining the plan remains clear, but the ability to achieve both concentrated Shanghai shipments and an earnings recovery has yet to be verified.
