The company's ongoing themes and initiatives this watchpoint touches on.
In FY2027-Q1, TSD generated revenue of ¥2,878.9 million and segment profit of ¥503.8 million, up 12.2% and 17.0% year on year, respectively. The segment margin was approximately 17.5%, calculated by dividing ¥503.8 million by ¥2,878.9 million. TSD accounted for most of consolidated revenue of ¥3,095.7 million, making whether the business remains the main driver of company-wide growth in the next results announcement the first point to monitor.
The company previously disclosed three segments: Digital Talent, Contract Development and Content Properties. From FY2027-Q1, it integrated the Digital Talent and Contract Development businesses into TSD and changed its reportable segments to two. While the integration makes it easier to assess coordination among sales, development and talent functions, TSD's overall revenue and profit growth alone make it more difficult to determine how much the high profitability of Digital Talent is offsetting fluctuations in Contract Development profitability.
In the next results announcement, revenue, segment profit and margins for Digital Talent and Contract Development within TSD should be reviewed separately where possible. In particular, even if TSD's overall margin remains at approximately 17.5%, a decline in Contract Development's margin could indicate that the integration is making weaknesses less visible. In the past, order-related losses and lower utilization at subsidiaries in the Contract Development business weighed on profit. It will therefore be necessary to determine whether current stable operations are temporary or reflect a business model with repeatable performance.
Although TSD's profit growth in FY2027-Q1 has been confirmed, it will also be important to see whether operating metrics such as talent billing rates, the number of active projects and the composition of Contract Development projects continue to be disclosed in the next results announcement. If TSD's margin falls below 17% at the H1 stage, or if TSD revenue slows to the low single digits or less year on year, the post-integration growth scenario and profitability improvement should be reassessed separately.
