Q1 revenue rose but operating profit declined; recovering profit progress in FY2027 H1 is the focus

FY2027 Q1 consolidated revenue was ¥168.611 billion, up ¥2.864 billion from ¥165.747 billion in the year-earlier period. Operating profit, however, was ¥8.073 billion, below the year-earlier ¥8.207 billion, indicating that revenue growth has not translated directly into operating profit growth. Operating margin was approximately 4.8%, down 0.2 percentage points from approximately 5.0% in the year-earlier period.

Full-year guidance is revenue of ¥785.0 billion, operating profit of ¥60.0 billion, ordinary profit of ¥58.5 billion and net income attributable to owners of the parent of ¥46.0 billion. Revenue progress was approximately 21.5% as of Q1, while operating profit progress was approximately 13.5%, indicating slower profit ramp-up than under a simple quarterly allocation. However, the company explained that results were broadly in line with plan by business, so it is too early to conclude from Q1 alone that the full-year target will be missed.

Comparable FY2026 H1 results were revenue of ¥349.372 billion and operating profit of ¥20.781 billion. Since prior-year Q1 operating profit was ¥8.207 billion, at least approximately ¥12.574 billion in standalone FY2027 Q2 operating profit is one benchmark under an assumption of similar seasonality. The next results should review not only cumulative H1 revenue and operating profit but also whether the Q1 decline in profit was temporary or reflects structural cost pressure that will carry into the second half.

Q1 ordinary profit was ¥9.372 billion, up 7.3% year on year, while net income was ¥6.905 billion, up 9.5%. Since this difference includes the effects of non-operating income and expenses and extraordinary gains, recovery in operating profit will be tracked as the top priority in FY2027 H1. Whether the ¥60.0 billion full-year forecast is maintained and whether the assessment of segment plans is updated are also important disclosure matters.
