Revenue for the nine months ended September 2026 was ¥323 million, reaching 97.3% of the then-full-year forecast of ¥332 million. On 16 September, the full-year revenue forecast was revised to ¥406 million, mainly reflecting an upfront payment under the vocal fold scar treatment agreement. At the next earnings release, it will be necessary to distinguish recognition of the upfront payment from the underlying recurring revenue.

The company's ongoing themes and initiatives this watchpoint touches on.
Revenue for the nine months ended September 2026 was ¥323 million, a substantial increase from ¥53 million in the same period of the prior year. Revenue was ¥18 million for the first quarter and ¥36 million on a cumulative basis for the first half, so the increase was largely driven by the supply of HGF drug substance in the third quarter. At the time of the third-quarter earnings report, the full-year revenue forecast was ¥332 million, putting cumulative progress at approximately 97.3%.
Subsequent reports on the earnings forecast revision dated 16 September stated that the full-year forecast had been revised to revenue of ¥406 million, an operating loss of ¥285 million and an ordinary loss of ¥283 million. The increase in the revenue forecast reflected recognition of a ¥100 million upfront payment under the agreement with Maruishi Pharmaceutical for a vocal fold scar treatment. On the cost side, current-year expenses were expected to decline by approximately ¥108 million because of a timing shift in product development costs. In other words, the improvement in revenue and losses includes the effects of the upfront contract payment and the timing of expense recognition, in addition to ordinary royalty income.
The historical revenue mix is also important in assessing earnings quality. In the first half of the fiscal year ended September 2025, the company recorded ¥35.928 million in royalty income and no product sales. In the fiscal year ended September 2024, it recorded ¥73.841 million in royalty income and ¥6.197 million in product sales. Drug-substance supply depends on the development progress and ordering schedules of contractual partners, so the ¥323 million recorded for the third quarter cannot simply be annualized as a recurring run rate.
At the next earnings release, we will want to confirm when the ¥100 million upfront payment included in the ¥406 million revenue forecast was recognized and under which revenue category. It will also be necessary to confirm the amounts of royalty income and drug-substance supply revenue, revenue excluding the upfront payment, and whether the ¥108 million reduction in product development costs actually occurred. As the company has a single reportable segment and does not disclose segment profitability, the extent to which gross profit and operating loss improved excluding the upfront payment will be the most important point in the FY2026 results.
