FY2027-Q1 revenue rose 4.3% year on year to ¥5,175 million, while operating profit turned into a ¥4 million loss from a ¥64 million profit. Given the seasonality of system deliveries, which are concentrated in Q2 and Q4, the key question is whether the earnings pressure from front-loaded investment will ease in FY2027-H1.

FY2027-Q1 revenue was ¥5,175 million, up ¥213 million, or 4.3%, from ¥4,962 million in the year-earlier period. Operating profit, however, turned from a ¥64 million profit into a ¥4 million operating loss. Ordinary profit declined 24.7% year on year to ¥103 million, while net income attributable to owners of the parent fell 22.6% to ¥71 million. Higher revenue has not flowed through to operating profit, making the divergence between sales scale and operating profitability the most important signal in this release.
The full-year forecasts remain unchanged at revenue of ¥25,700 million, operating profit of ¥1,420 million, ordinary profit of ¥1,620 million, and net income attributable to owners of the parent of ¥1,230 million. Q1 revenue represented only 20.1% of the full-year forecast, while operating profit was negative ¥4 million, leaving ¥1,424 million to be generated to meet the full-year operating profit forecast on a simple calculation. However, the company continues to disclose a business structure in which system deliveries are concentrated in Q2 and Q4. Rather than concluding that the full-year target is unattainable based solely on the Q1 loss, investors should assess whether revenue recognition and capacity utilization improve simultaneously during the busy Q2 period.
In FY2026-H1, revenue was ¥10,466 million and operating profit was ¥324 million. Accordingly, the key benchmark for FY2027-H1 will be not only whether revenue exceeds the year-earlier level, but also whether operating profit surpasses at least ¥324 million and the operating margin returns to roughly the 3% range recorded a year earlier. As of Q1, the financial-related segment benefited from higher revenue and gross margin improvement from winning more profitable projects, but factors weighing on profit were greater. Project utilization and the ability to absorb costs in Q2 will therefore be critical.
The company said that investment was front-loaded in Q1 because it implemented planned growth and infrastructure investments, including base-pay increases, education and training, and office improvements. At the next results announcement, it will be necessary to distinguish between temporary start-up costs and structural increases in fixed costs that will continue throughout FY2027. If the company discloses not only total SG&A expenses but also the amounts or year-on-year changes in payroll, recruitment, education and training, and office-related costs, the scope for operating profit recovery can be assessed more precisely.
