FY2027-Q1 revenue increased 18.2% year on year to ¥51.377 billion, while operating profit rose 4.3% to ¥6.339 billion. However, the operating margin declined from 14.0% to 12.3%, and profit for the period fell 1.1%, making the key focus for FY2027-H1 whether higher revenue translates into profit.

Revenue of ¥51.377 billion and operating profit of ¥6.339 billion, with the question being whether operating profit growth can keep pace with the 18.2% increase in revenue
Whether the operating margin can recover to around the 14.0% level of the year-earlier quarter, or decline to 12.3% or below
Whether pretax profit of ¥5.267 billion can maintain its 2.1% year-on-year increase and whether the 1.1% decline in profit for the period of ¥3.368 billion can be reversed
Whether the company will disclose, on a cumulative H1 basis, changes in gross profit of ¥10.00 billion and SG&A expenses of ¥3.61 billion, together with the burden from amusement prizes, personnel expenses and payment fees
FY2027-Q1 revenue was ¥51.377 billion, up 18.2% year on year, while operating profit was ¥6.339 billion, up 4.3%. Revenue increased by ¥7.892 billion from ¥43.485 billion in the year-earlier quarter, whereas the increase in operating profit was limited to ¥263 million. Top-line expansion is clear, but the increase in profit is limited, so the company’s ability to absorb costs needs to be assessed rather than assuming a straightforward revenue-growth story.
The earnings presentation reported gross profit of ¥10.00 billion, up 24.2% year on year, while the operating margin declined from 14.0% in the year-earlier quarter to 12.3% in the current quarter. The increase in amusement prizes, personnel expenses and payment fees was cited as a factor behind gross profit growth failing to translate into operating profit growth. In FY2027-H1, a key check will be whether the growth rates of prize costs, personnel expenses and fees exceeded the 18.2% growth rate in revenue, and whether the company discloses the amounts or rates for each expense item.
Pretax profit was ¥5.267 billion, up only 2.1% year on year, while quarterly profit attributable to owners of the parent was ¥3.368 billion, down 1.1%. The presentation explained that net finance income and costs deteriorated from a loss of ¥990 million in the year-earlier quarter to a loss of ¥1.18 billion, so the increase in operating profit did not flow through to bottom-line profit. In H1, the bridge from operating profit to profit for the period, including finance costs, foreign-exchange losses and the tax burden, needs to be assessed rather than focusing only on operating profit.
By segment, revenue in Japan was ¥28.549 billion and segment profit was ¥5.543 billion, improving from revenue of ¥24.423 billion and profit of ¥3.646 billion in the year-earlier quarter. In contrast, the US generated revenue of ¥22.561 billion and segment profit of ¥1.618 billion, below the year-earlier profit of ¥2.844 billion. Since group profit growth is being supported by Japan, a continued decline in US profit in H1 would limit the scope for recovery in the consolidated operating margin.
Indoor multi-purpose leisure facilities have a seasonal pattern, with revenue increasing in the second and fourth quarters, when there are more extended holidays. It is therefore inappropriate to judge full-year progress based solely on a simple annualisation of Q1, but H1 includes a busy period and should make it easier to assess whether higher revenue converts into profit. It will be important to see whether the operating margin recovers from 12.3% to around the year-earlier level of 14.0%, or at least improves toward the full-year plan’s operating margin of 15.1%.

Revenue grew substantially, but operating profit grew only modestly, meaning that the increase in revenue came with lower margins.
