In FY2027-Q1, revenue increased 5.5% year on year and the gross margin improved to 50.9%, but upfront investment in advertising and personnel resulted in an operating loss of ¥99 million. Since the company says it remains on track with its full-year plan, the focus for FY2027-H1 will be whether revenue growth has begun to absorb the increase in SG&A expenses.

Will FY2027-H1 operating income turn positive, at ¥0 million or more?
Can the gross margin be maintained at the FY2027-Q1 level of 50.9%?
Will the year-on-year increase in SG&A expenses expand beyond ¥353 million, and will the breakdown of ¥258 million in marketing, ¥54 million in personnel and ¥21 million in system usage fees be updated?
FY2027-Q1 revenue was ¥3,251 million, up 5.5% year on year. Gross profit was ¥1,653 million and the gross margin was 50.9%, an improvement of 1.6 percentage points year on year. Revenue and gross profit were described as quarterly records, but operating income turned from a profit in the year-earlier period to a loss of ¥99 million. Ordinary loss was ¥105 million, while net loss attributable to owners of the parent was ¥126 million. Growth through the gross profit level has yet to translate into operating profit.
SG&A expenses put pressure on earnings, rising ¥353 million year on year to ¥1,753 million according to the presentation materials. The breakdown was ¥258 million in marketing investment, including advertising and promotional expenses to expand awareness, ¥54 million in personnel investment and ¥21 million in system usage fees associated with price revisions and other measures. These disclosed amounts total ¥333 million, leaving a ¥20 million difference from the ¥353 million increase in total SG&A expenses for which no further breakdown was provided in the latest materials.
The full-year forecast was unchanged at revenue of ¥14,568 million, gross profit of ¥7,300 million, operating income of ¥300 million, ordinary income of ¥268 million and net income attributable to owners of the parent of ¥161 million. FY2027-Q1 revenue and gross profit progress rates were 22.3% and 22.7%, respectively, but operating income and below were negative, making them difficult to assess using simple progress rates. If operating income does not turn positive in FY2027-H1, achieving full-year operating income of ¥300 million will require more than ¥300 million of profit in the second half, increasing the degree of back-end loading.
The company said it will continue its upfront investments in FY2027-Q2 and make cautious decisions from FY2027-Q3 onward based on the effects of those investments. At the next earnings release, it will be important to check not only whether cumulative revenue and gross profit approach the mechanical half-year benchmarks of ¥7,284 million and ¥3,650 million, but also the increase in SG&A expenses, ongoing advertising investment, cumulative personnel investment and the extent of improvement in operating income. The seasonality underlying the full-year forecast, the timing of investment recovery and the allocation of expenses over the remaining period have not been disclosed quantitatively at this stage.
Gross profit increased, but higher SG&A expenses from upfront investments resulted in an operating loss in Q1, requiring recovery of those costs from H1 onward.
