The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

In Property and Hotels, the Kansai region experienced a pullback from the lodging demand surge generated by the Osaka Expo in the previous year. However, higher RevPAR at higher-priced hotels in Hokkaido and Tokyo, as well as revenue from newly opened and acquired hotels, contributed to higher revenue. Factors contributing to lower profit included a higher fixed-cost ratio due to lower revenue in the Kansai region, the fact that newly opened hotels were still establishing their earnings base, operating losses at acquired hotels during the off-season, and real estate acquisition tax. In Cosmetics and Health Foods, the reasons given for lower revenue and profit were a decline in the recurring subscription continuation rate, higher advertising expenses, and inventory optimization measures in the overseas business.
