In the liquor retail business, sales were affected by a decline following the pullback from rush demand ahead of manufacturers’ price increases in April of the previous year, while the increase in directly operated restaurants in the food service business contributed to net sales. Gross profit increased on the effect of higher sales, but this was insufficient to offset the increase in SG&A expenses resulting from higher personnel, utility and other costs, resulting in declines in operating income, ordinary income and net income attributable to owners of the parent.
