「The declining-balance method had been used to depreciate tangible fixed assets of the Company and its consolidated subsidiaries, excluding buildings and leased assets, but from the current consolidated fiscal year, the method has been changed to the straight-line method. Following the formulation of a new store-opening plan under the medium-term management plan, the Company reviewed the usage of its tangible fixed assets. Because stable, long-term operation is expected in the future, the Company determined that allocating costs through equal depreciation over the assets’ useful lives would provide a more appropriate matching of costs and revenues and more reasonably reflect the Company’s economic substance. Accordingly, the depreciation method has been changed to the straight-line method. As a result of this change, compared with the previous method, operating profit, ordinary profit and profit before income taxes for the current consolidated fiscal year each increased by ¥350 million.」
