The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. The fresh fish sales business posted higher revenue because fish prices remained high. The bait and feed sales business posted a substantial increase in revenue because sales volumes of both live bait and compound feed increased. In terms of profits, the eel farming business posted an operating loss due to higher aquaculture costs, an oversupply of domestically produced eels, and declining sales prices resulting from imports of inexpensive live eels from China and elsewhere. However, the core businesses remained solid, and all profit measures increased due to higher sales volumes of live bait.
