The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Revenue declined as the number of students aiming for Tokyo metropolitan junior and senior high schools fell, following Tokyo's expansion of its effective tuition-free program for private high schools. Meanwhile, the expansion of study-camp periods and the introduction of long-term study camps contributed to earnings. Operating profit increased due to the lapse of temporary costs incurred in the previous fiscal year and cost reductions from improved operating efficiency, including the consolidation and closure of school facilities. Net income was affected by a gain on the sale of shares in an affiliated company in the previous fiscal year and impairment losses associated with the consolidation and closure of school facilities and other assets in the current fiscal year.
