The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Net sales exceeded expectations because electricity sales contracts were secured steadily and actual demand exceeded assumptions, power generation in the green energy business was generally steady, and the forestry business shifted a certain amount of its sales to external sales of logs. Operating profit deteriorated because higher market prices on the Japan Electric Power Exchange drove up electricity procurement costs, power generation output at the EF-ON Shingu Power Plant was curtailed due to difficulties securing fuel chips, and expenses increased as the forestry business expanded its workforce. Ordinary profit and net income increased due to gains on electricity futures and valuation gains on derivatives for future delivery months.
