Net sales increased due to higher thermal power plant utilization rates and increased electricity sales in Thailand and elsewhere, but gross profit on electricity sales declined because of higher fuel costs and electricity purchased from other companies. In addition, non-operating income decreased due to the absence of the equity-method investment gain resulting from the transfer of an equity interest in the U.S. thermal power generation business and other factors, while non-operating expenses increased due to higher foreign exchange losses and other factors.
