「As part of spent fuel management, we are proceeding with the transport of spent fuel to the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant, the transport of spent MOX fuel to Orano in France in connection with a demonstration study on spent MOX fuel reprocessing, and preparations for the start of operations at the interim storage facility around 2030.」
The decision to transport approximately 200 tonnes of spent MOX fuel and the policy of transporting fuel to Rokkasho, France and the interim storage facility based on the roadmap continued for the full fiscal year. - FY2024-Q3ReframedAnnual report
「On 19 January 2024, the Spent Fuel Management Promotion Plan was revised to reflect that specific initiatives for spent fuel management would be implemented based on the Spent Fuel Management Roadmap, and to delete the description concerning finalization of the planned site by the end of 2023. We will steadily implement initiatives based on the Spent Fuel Management Roadmap and make every effort to ensure the safe and stable operation of our nuclear power plants, with safety as our top priority.」
The description concerning finalization of the planned site by the end of 2023 was deleted, and the plan was reorganized around specific initiatives based on the Spent Fuel Management Roadmap. It also states that, on 13 October 2023, the Governor of Fukui Prefecture expressed his understanding of the continued operation of Mihama Unit 3 and Takahama Units 1 and 2. - FY2024-Q2First statedAnnual report
「We formulated the Spent Fuel Management Promotion Plan and are working to finalize the planned site for an interim storage facility outside Fukui Prefecture by the end of 2023, with operations scheduled to begin around 2030. In light of the finalized plan to transport spent fuel to France in connection with a demonstration study on the reprocessing of spent MOX fuel, we reported to Fukui Prefecture on 12 June 2023 that the plan fulfilled the objective of finalizing the planned site, as transporting spent fuel outside Fukui Prefecture was considered equivalent in significance to interim storage. On 10 October, we formulated the Spent Fuel Management Roadmap as a guideline supplementing the Spent Fuel Management Promotion Plan, to set out specific initiatives through around 2030, when operations at the interim storage facility are scheduled to begin, and explained it to Fukui Prefecture and the Fukui Prefectural Assembly.」
The target of finalizing the planned site by the end of 2023 was explained as having been achieved because the plan to transport spent fuel to France had significance equivalent to interim storage. In addition, the roadmap includes consideration of installing dry storage facilities at power plant sites, alongside transport to the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant, France and the interim storage facility, as measures to secure transport capacity through around 2030, when operations at the interim storage facility are scheduled to begin.
