Orders for spot projects bound for the Middle East in the ocean shipping business, increased import customs clearance transactions and efforts concerning large project cargo in the port transportation business, and price revisions, the acquisition of new cargo and an increase in the handling of hazardous materials in the warehousing business contributed to higher revenue and profit. In the domestic shipping segment of the marine transportation business, however, sluggish domestic demand for steel products, production stoppages resulting from customers' equipment replacement work, persistently high time-charter hire and fuel costs, and periods of idleness for company-owned vessels led to lower revenue and profit.
