The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the fiscal year ended June 2026, existing-store sales were weighed down by a decline following the surge in rice prices and a decline following the previous increase in pharmaceutical sales, while existing-store customer traffic increased due to the price advantage provided by EDLP. SG&A expenses were contained through the stable operation of self-checkout systems, the management partner program and optimization of staffing levels, but higher electricity rates and the difference arising from the settlement of asset retirement obligations weighed on operating profit. The forecast for net income for the fiscal year ending June 2027 incorporates the impact of the abolition of the tax credit under the wage increase promotion tax incentive and the additional impact of the special corporate tax for defense.
