For the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027, a simple year-on-year comparison is not possible because six months of results were incorporated for 384 consolidated subsidiaries whose fiscal year-ends were changed. Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Due to the change in fiscal year-ends, six months of results from 1 January to 30 June 2026 were consolidated for 384 consolidated subsidiaries. Dry bulk profits increased due to improved market conditions, steady cargo movements and improved vessel deployment efficiency. Energy profits declined, as lower profits from tankers and offshore operations were more than offset by the absence of one-off gains and the expiration of contracts. Chemical logistics profits increased on improved market conditions and higher demand. Product transport profits declined due to higher fuel costs and vessel deployment constraints.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

In addition to consolidating six months of results for 384 consolidated subsidiaries due to the change in their fiscal year-ends, higher market conditions for dry bulk shipping, strong cargo demand and yen depreciation contributed to higher revenue and profits. Factors contributing to lower profits included higher fuel costs, vessel deployment constraints, the absence of one-off gains recorded in the previous year and the expiration of certain contracts. The full-year forecast is based on assumptions regarding the situation in the Middle East, freight market conditions, cargo demand, foreign exchange rates and fuel oil prices.
