In the Transportation segment, revenue increased due primarily to growth in passenger numbers driven by commuting demand from companies along the railway lines and leisure demand during Golden Week, although segment profit declined because of higher personnel and other expenses. In the Real Estate segment, both revenue and profit increased due to deliveries of condominiums and the sale of owned land. Lower depreciation and other expenses in the Distribution segment, an increase in membership in the Leisure and Services segment, and differences in order size in Other Businesses were the factors behind the respective changes. Overall net income declined due in part to the reversal of the gain on revision of the retirement benefit plan recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.
