「In the store business, new stores contributed to higher revenue, but revenue declined because existing-store sales fell amid a stronger preference for frugality caused by inflation. As a result, distribution revenue was ¥34.110 billion, down 0.5% year on year. Operating results were a loss of ¥304 million, compared with operating profit of ¥153 million in the same period of the previous year, partly due to a decline in gross margin caused by higher procurement prices in the store business.」
Consumers’ stronger preference for frugality due to inflation and higher procurement prices were first individually identified as factors behind lower existing-store sales, a lower gross margin and an operating loss in the distribution business.
