Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Although new-vehicle transportation declined due to lower domestic new-vehicle sales and weak performance by contracted manufacturers, revenue in the domestic automotive-related business increased on stronger contracted used-vehicle transportation, higher revenue per vehicle, the vehicle maintenance business, and on-site operations at automotive auction venues. Factors contributing to the decline in profit in the domestic automotive-related business included higher crew compensation, system costs, costs associated with establishing a division of labor, and increased maintenance expenses. Revenue and profit in the overseas-related business declined due to vessel delays and vessel space restrictions caused by congestion at port facilities, lower revenue per unit following contract renewals, and the absence of one-off factors that had boosted profit in the same period of the previous year.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

In the domestic automotive-related business, revenue increased on stronger contracted used-vehicle transportation and higher revenue per vehicle, but profit declined due to higher crew compensation, system costs, costs associated with establishing a division of labor, and maintenance expenses. In the overseas-related business, revenue and profit declined due to port congestion and vessel space restrictions in Malaysia, lower revenue per unit following contract renewals in China, and the absence of one-off factors that had boosted profit in the same period of the previous year.
