The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Transaction-related revenue increased on the back of strong activity in the Japanese equity market. Other factors contributing to higher revenue included increased clearing obligations for stocks and other instruments, including collateral management revenue from interest-rate swap transactions, greater use of market information, higher index licensing revenue and increased use of colocation services. Operating expenses increased, primarily because of higher other operating expenses, including amounts rebated to clearing participants in connection with collateral management for interest-rate swap transactions.
