Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

While market inventory adjustments affected the FA Systems Business and Semiconductor Devices Business, signs of a recovery from the bottom emerged from the third quarter of the consolidated fiscal year under review. In the Semiconductor Devices Business, sales of microcontrollers, memory, liquid crystal displays and SSDs grew, but operating profit declined as inventory rationalization progressed in Japan and overseas. In the Facilities Business, demand for data centers, air-conditioning demand driven by the extremely hot summer, and increased orders in carbon-neutrality-related fields contributed to results. The weaker yen also generated foreign exchange gains.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

The company cited weak demand in the Chinese market, fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, the risk of higher energy and raw material prices arising from the situation in the Middle East, and inventory adjustments in the FA Systems Business and Semiconductor Devices Business. It also stated that foreign exchange gains resulting from the weaker yen, the streamlining of cross-shareholdings, and demand and sales trends for individual products affected results.
