Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

In the furniture and household goods business, sales of kitchen tools for European brands and household goods in Japan remained firm, while sales from 防災ダイレクト were incremental. However, inventory clearance sales associated with the dissolution of ベネクシー lowered the gross profit margin, and costs were incurred to close the home appliances factory in China. Net income increased due to the deferred tax benefit associated with the completion of ベネクシー's liquidation.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Sales increased mainly because kitchen tools for European brands performed well in the furniture and household goods business, and sales from 防災ダイレクト, which became a consolidated subsidiary in July last year, were incremental. Operating profit declined primarily because inventory clearance sales associated with the dissolution of ベネクシー lowered the gross profit margin in the apparel and accessories business. Interim net income attributable to owners of the parent increased due to the recognition of a deferred tax benefit following the completion of ベネクシー's liquidation.
