In the automobile sales business, new vehicle sales were strong as the supply of new vehicles improved. In the spices business, sales volumes increased. In the construction materials business, the pass-through of higher prices progressed, while sales were strong in the gondola business as a result of business improvement initiatives. Meanwhile, the fuel wholesale business was affected by a reduction in fuel supply due to the situation in the Middle East, the service station business by lower selling prices amid intensified competition, the ODA business by a decrease in the number of large projects completed, and the information-related business by the unwinding of special demand for PC replacements following the end of Windows 10 support. Factors contributing to the increase in operating income included improved profitability in the fuel wholesale and gondola businesses, strong automobile sales, and reduced downtime in the wind power generation business. These were partially offset by factors including higher raw material procurement costs in the spices business.
