Revenue increased on higher market prices, despite the decline associated with Lawson becoming an equity-method affiliate. On the profit side, the absence of the previous fiscal year's revaluation gain associated with Lawson becoming an equity-method affiliate, the gain on the sale of property, plant and equipment in the Australian metallurgical coal business, and reversals of impairment losses on fixed assets weighed on earnings. These factors were partly offset by an increase in share of profit or loss of investments accounted for using the equity method, owing to partial reversals of impairment losses recognized in prior years in the copper business and higher market prices.
