Orders received and sales remained solid in the Uniforms and Health and Lifestyle businesses. Factors affecting performance included a decline in event sales in the Kimono business, withdrawal from unprofitable retail locations and the overseas-produced women's OEM business in the Apparel business, new orders in the Home Furnishings business, solid mail-order and e-commerce sales alongside higher manufacturing costs due to the weaker yen and rising energy prices and insufficient pass-through to prices in the Health and Lifestyle business, and higher expenses in the Building leasing business.

The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. The main factor behind the increase in sales was the solid performance of orders received and sales in the Uniforms and Health and Lifestyle businesses. In the Apparel business, increased orders for uniforms contributed, while the Home Furnishings business benefited from new orders and the Health and Lifestyle business from mail-order and e-commerce sales. In the Health and Lifestyle business, however, higher manufacturing costs resulting from the weaker yen and rising energy prices were not fully passed on to selling prices, while event sales declined in the Kimono business.
