The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. The company explained that, while it pursued measures to address higher costs for imported products resulting from rising raw material prices and the weaker yen, factory utilization declined due in part to the discontinuation of production for certain custom-made products. Personnel expenses increased as a result of staff expansion and improved employee compensation, while advertising expenses rose following the publication of a comprehensive catalog. Interim net income attributable to owners of the parent increased due to the recognition of extraordinary gains, including gains on sales of investment securities. The full-year forecast was revised “in light of recent business trends and other factors.”
