Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Higher sales in both businesses, higher sales and profit due to the yen's depreciation, increased gross profit from higher sales, and the absence of the license consideration recorded in the previous fiscal year and the one-time costs of Elevate contributed to the increase in profit. On the other hand, a deterioration in the cost ratio due to U.S. tariffs, costs related to Swan EndoSurgical,Inc., and valuation losses on foreign exchange derivatives contributed to the decrease in profit.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Both the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Solutions business and the Surgical Intervention business reported higher sales. The yen's depreciation generated positive factors of ¥23,231 million in net sales and ¥4,377 million in operating profit. Profit was also boosted by higher gross profit from increased sales and the absence of the approximately ¥6 billion consideration recorded in the previous fiscal year under the agreement with Evident, as well as the one-time costs of the Elevate quality assurance and regulatory compliance project. On the other hand, a deterioration in the cost ratio due to U.S. tariffs, costs related to Swan EndoSurgical,Inc., and valuation losses on foreign exchange derivatives were negative factors for profit.
