Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Net sales increased due to higher sales of electronic products in Japan and increased production, mainly in India, in Asia. On the earnings side, structural reforms, efficiency improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, voluntary retirement programs in China and procurement cost improvements in Thailand contributed to results. In North America, sales declined following the end of production of models at the end of their lifecycles, but profit increased due to the effects of structural reforms and efficiency improvements.
