The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In Japan, demand remained firm, particularly for truck-related products. Net sales also increased in Indonesia due to the effects of government measures and in Thailand as demand recovered. In China, however, both domestic demand and demand for exports declined. On the earnings side, although the company pursued cost-reduction initiatives, including improvements in production efficiency, soaring raw material prices, product mix, and increased selling, general and administrative expenses resulted in lower profit.
