The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.Profit was boosted by growth in loans outstanding and higher lending yields, increased fund income, lower hedging costs for yen-denominated and foreign-currency bonds, and higher gains on sales of shares. On the other hand, interest on deposits and other liabilities, personnel and property expenses, and credit-related expenses arising from deterioration in the credit quality of certain large borrowers reduced profit.
