The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. All segments performed steadily and reported higher revenue. Factors contributing to the improvement in results included the benefit of higher revenue, the effects of structural reforms implemented in the Power Devices business in the previous fiscal year, contributions from products acquired through M&A, foreign exchange gains, and extraordinary income from the sale of investment securities. In the Power Units business, factors behind the decline in earnings included weaker Asian currencies and higher expenses associated with concentrated resource allocation. In the Power Systems business, the decline was attributed to the reversal of the one-off gain from the reversal of a product warranty provision recorded in the previous fiscal year.
