The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the manufacture and sale of information and telecommunications equipment, sales of communications equipment for second-generation smart meters increased, while revenue recognition for optical transmission equipment was pushed back to the second half of the fiscal year and beyond. Factors affecting profit included soaring raw material prices due to higher prices and supply difficulties for semiconductors and chips, higher development expenses for optical transmission equipment, and higher packaging and freight expenses associated with increased shipments of communications equipment for second-generation smart meters.
