「The depreciation method previously used by the group for machinery and equipment was the declining-balance method, but it was changed to the straight-line method from the consolidated fiscal year under review. This followed a review of the group's capital investment and an examination of the actual use of its machinery and equipment. In consideration of slower technological innovation in photomasks and the maturation of the market, the group plans to make stable, regular replacement investments to maintain its equipment and expects to use it stably going forward. The group therefore judged that the straight-line method, which allocates the benefits of use evenly as an expense, would appropriately reflect the actual use of the equipment.」
The change in the depreciation method for machinery and equipment from the declining-balance method to the straight-line method was applied for the full fiscal year, increasing depreciation expense, operating income, ordinary income and income before income taxes by ¥581.856 million each. - FY2021-Q3RestatedAnnual report
