The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.During the interim period, profits were boosted by increased shipments of second-generation smart meters, a shift toward more profitable products, improved capacity utilization and the selective acceptance of highly profitable orders. On the other hand, profits were weighed down by higher raw material and component prices, growth investments including human capital investment, research and development expenses and costs related to considering expansion into the United States, and lower overseas sales. Net income attributable to owners of the parent was also supported by a decrease in business structure improvement expenses.
