Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Product sales temporarily declined as shipments of mass-production products for automotive applications shifted to Q2, but increased 5.9% year on year to ¥27,400 million due to the effect of the weaker yen. NRE sales increased 37.1% year on year to ¥11,594 million, mainly due to prototyping-related revenue associated with the launch of new mass-production products for North American data centers. Meanwhile, research and development expenses increased because investment in advanced development and other areas remained at a high level, resulting in an operating loss.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Net sales increased due to NRE revenue related to prototyping for the launch of new mass-production products for North American data centers, as well as the effect of the weaker yen. Meanwhile, earnings deteriorated because shipments of mass-production products for automotive applications shifted from Q1 to Q2, investment in product development and advanced development remained at a high level, and the company incurred foreign exchange losses, among other factors.
