Financial Results Presentation for the Third Quarter of the Fiscal Year Ending August 2026

In the third quarter of the fiscal year ending August 2026, revenue fell 9.2% year on year and came in below plan. However, the operating loss, ordinary loss and net loss all narrowed from the same period of the previous year, owing to cost reductions and other measures. Quarterly revenue from the core AsReader business reached a record high, although the recognition of a major U.S. project was pushed back to the following quarter or later.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Revenue fell below plan because the timing of revenue recognition for a major project initially expected at the U.S. subsidiary was pushed back to the following quarter or later. Operating profit improved through cost reductions from personnel-cost optimization, expense controls and business-process improvements, but temporary costs associated with eliminating unprofitable stores caused the shortfall against plan. Factors affecting standalone profit included an allowance for doubtful accounts on loans to the U.S. subsidiary, one-time expenses, R&D investment in growth areas and withdrawal from unprofitable businesses.
