Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

In the Water Supply Equipment Business, the Company secured deliveries for water distribution pipe replacement projects, proposed products with superior earthquake resistance and ease of installation, and continued to reflect costs in sales prices. However, higher copper and material prices and wages, together with sluggish housing demand, had an impact. In the Housing and Building Equipment Business, sales of heating components and sales price revisions had a positive effect, while lower new housing starts and higher costs had an adverse impact. In the Merchandise Sales Business, sales of resin products declined, while sales of cast-iron products increased. Net income benefited from extraordinary income, including a gain on extinguishment of tie-in shares related to the absorption-type merger.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

Higher copper prices, wages, energy costs and transportation costs, together with weaker housing demand, weighed on earnings. The impact was partly offset by sales price revisions, stronger sales in the heating sector, greater efficiency in the business structure and extraordinary income related to the absorption-type merger.
