These are items the company does not state in this document. We do not leave them blank, nor fill them in from other sources or by inference.
The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In Japan, demand remained soft due to soaring rice prices, the postponement of capital investment plans and the end of replacement demand for major products. Overseas, the introduction of onigiri-forming machines in North America and the expansion of Japanese conveyor-belt sushi chains into East Asia contributed to sales. On the earnings side, increased staffing and depreciation expenses associated with preparations for the start-up of the new plant, as well as higher personnel expenses, outsourcing costs and exhibition expenses, weighed on profit. Profit was also reduced by legal fees related to the termination of a capital and business alliance and fees for the acquisition of treasury shares. In addition, the company recorded additional taxes and other charges under the transfer pricing tax regime.
