「Similarly, to build a stable operating base, we are working on an agricultural products production business, referred to below as the “agriculture business,” outside the equipment business, which is highly exposed to economic fluctuations, in order to secure stable profits in the future.」
The fiscal 2024 description of management strategy, R&D, and new businesses no longer mentions equipment for lithium-ion or all-solid-state batteries, while the agriculture business is described as the new business outside semiconductors. - FY2023First statedAnnual report
「To build a stable operating base, we are commercializing inspection and manufacturing equipment related to lithium-ion batteries, which are expected to grow in the future outside our semiconductor-related operations. We are currently transitioning from development to the product stage and have commercialized equipment addressing previously unmet user needs, including the electrolyte leak inspection system ELC-J1000, which detects electrolyte leakage caused by pinholes in battery cases or exterior materials after sealing, and the ultrasonic bonding system UWS-J1000, which enables reliable ultrasonic bonding of multilayer foils and films with limited thermal degradation or deformation. A key feature of both systems is their ability to detect, during manufacturing, risks inherent in lithium-ion batteries such as overheating, ignition, and explosion. We have obtained patents for the basic technologies and have begun activities to deploy similar systems for all-solid-state batteries.」
The electrolyte leak inspection system and ultrasonic bonding system have been commercialized, moving the lithium-ion battery business from development to the product stage. Basic technologies have been patented, and deployment for all-solid-state batteries is underway.
