Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

Revenue increased due to the positive effect of foreign-exchange translation and solid performance in materials for the semiconductor and electronics-related industries. Operating profit decreased due to a decline in revenue on a foreign-exchange-neutral basis and higher expenses, including temporary cost increases associated with the review and harmonization of accounting policies and changes in accounting treatments following the integration in April this year. Quarterly net profit attributable to owners of the parent declined slightly year on year, due to the recognition of gains on the sale of investment securities and adjustments to corporate income taxes, among other factors.
