Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

The machine tools-related business saw declines in sales of projects for the automotive industry and sales of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, while its profit margin improved following the completion of high-margin projects. In the firearms business, sales volumes of defense equipment and sporting rifles for overseas markets increased, and the weaker yen had a positive effect, but revenue from a specific project contract recognized in the same period of the previous year fell away. The special-purpose vehicles business had no shipments of road sweepers, and unit sales of industrial cleaning equipment also declined. Profitability in the building materials business improved due to higher sales of soundproof and general-purpose sashes.
